How to Remove GarageBand from a Mac

Although I’ve used GarageBand a few times, I eventually decided to uninstall it from my Mac because I rarely use it.

What Happens If I Delete GarageBand Mac?

When you remove GarageBand, all your projects within the app will be deleted

However, your personal files and data stored on your Mac will remain unaffected. It’s important to be aware of any additional content that you may have downloaded and to back up any important files before deleting the application.

Once you remove GarageBand from your Mac, it will free up space on your hard disk, as GarageBand can take up a significant amount of storage space. The app itself takes up about 1.7 GB and, over time the library files it creates can also take up a lot of space.

How Do I Delete GarageBand From My Mac?

To begin, open the Finder app on your Mac and click the Applications tab in the sidebar. From the list, locate GarageBand and right-click it to select Move to Trash

To permanently delete it from your computer, click the Trash icon in the Dock menu and right-click on GarageBand. Then choose the option to Delete Immediately or Empty Trash.

How to Delete GarageBand Sound Library 

After you have deleted the GarageBand app, you can also delete all the files associated with the app. Here’s how to do it:

Click on the Apple icon in the top menu and select About This Mac. Next, click on the Storage tab and press the Manage button. 

This will open a new window, which breaks down your storage usage into categories such as Applications, Documents, Photos, and more. Click on the Music Creation tab in the sidebar menu and then press the “Remove GarageBand Sound Library” button.
