How to Check the Chrome Version on Mac

There are a few reasons why it’s important to keep Chrome up-to-date on Mac. But how would you know if your Chrome is up-to-date if you don’t know which version you’re using?

I’m Andreas, and I talk about Chrome-related stuff that everyone should know. One of the facts everyone should know about Chrome is the current version.

I won’t dwell too much on it and instead jump right into how to check the Chrome version on Mac. Let’s do that.

Easy Steps to Check Chrome Version on Mac

Checking the Chrome version on Mac is an easy process that will likely take no more than a minute. It’s so easy that I wouldn’t even call it a process but a few simple steps. Here is how to do that.

Step 1: Launch Google Chrome.

Step 2: Click on the three vertical dots in the top-right corner and go to “Help.”

Step 3: A list of options will appear right next to it. Choose “About Google Chrome.”

Step 4: You can clearly see the Chrome version in this section. As you can see, Chrome will tell you if your browser is up-to-date or not. Look for the blue check-mark right next to the version to recognize if Chrome is up-to-date.

For macOS, the current Chrome version is 101.0.4951.54, released just a few days ago.

Why It’s Important to Keep Chrome Up to Date

Now I will tell you why it’s important to keep Chrome up to date and show you how to update it if it isn’t.

First, let’s look at how to update Chrome.

  • Step 1: Launch Chrome.
  • Step 2: Click on the three vertical dots, hover over “Help,” and select “About Google Chrome.”
  • Click on “Update Google Chrome” and relaunch the browser once the update is complete.

With that out of the way, Chrome will be updated to the latest version on your Mac.

So why is it so important?

While Google will automatically download any new Chrome update, sometimes it doesn’t do it. On occasion, you have to do it yourself. And the reasons why you should do it range from introducing new features to security.

Google introduces something new to the browser or improves on previous functions and bugs with every new update. So, in a sense, you stay up to date with all recent changes Google implements to its web browser.

But if features aren’t that important to you, I should mention that every browser is susceptible to vulnerabilities. These potential risks are why you must update Chrome to the latest version.

Every new security update will eliminate the possibility of malicious actors breaching the browser. Google says that updating Chrome makes sure you’re protected from the latest security threats.

If you want to browse safely on the World Wide Web, check the Chrome version and ensure it’s up-to-date.

Conclusion

That concludes this short guide on how to check the current Chrome version on Mac. As you can see, the steps are easy to follow and easier to execute.

I’ve also included instructions on how to update Chrome to the latest version and given you a few reasons why you shouldn’t dwell on updating too much.
