Is the iPad Pro Waterproof?
Unfortunately, the 2021 iPad Pro is not waterproof.
Even though it has no waterproof ratings, your iPad may work fine when exposed to water for short periods. But since it has no water resistance, it can easily break (like in the video).
Waterproof means that a device is impervious to water. That means if you drop a waterproof device in a bucket of water and take it out, it will still work fine. If you did this with an iPad, you would break it.
At the time of writing, Apple has no waterproof iPad models. Nor have they indicated they have any plans to do so with future models.
With that said, Apple is tight-lipped on all new product development. So, there’s a chance you could see one in the future.
Is iPad Pro Water Resistant?
The 2021 iPad Pro is also not water-resistant. Water resistance means a device can withstand some degree of water penetration and still work.
The 2021 iPad Pro does not hold a water resistance rating of any sort. A few drops of water on your iPad’s display won’t harm it.
But if it gets water under the screen, it will sustain electrical damage. Water can penetrate your iPad through these areas:
- Lighting port (charging port)
- Headphone jack
- Speakers
- Mics
- Camera
How to Make Your iPad Pro Water Resistant
Thankfully, you can protect your iPad Pro with a certified waterproof iPad case or protective bag. But, these accessories are a bit bulky and cumbersome.
As such, you might consider only using a waterproof case or bag when you risk water exposure.
For example, if you want to take your iPad Pro on a kayaking trip. Or you want to do your taxes while you scuba dive. These would be great times to use a waterproof case or bag.
Cases
Here are a few iPad Pro cases that are waterproof. These are not designed for underwater use and can let water leak in if they get into deep water. They are intended mostly for accidental protection.
- New iPad Pro 11 inch 2021& 2020 Waterproof Case – fully submersible up to 2 meters (6.6 feet), for iPad Pro 11-inch only
- iPad Pro 12.9 inch Gen 5 Waterproof Case 2021 – fully submersible up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) for 30 minutes, for iPad Pro 12.9-inch Gen 5 only
Protective Bags
Protective waterproof bags are essentially ziplock bags that don’t let water inside, as long as you seal them properly.
The Universal iPad Waterproof Case for iPad Pro is one example that provides water-resistant protection up to 98 feet depth.
Conclusion
The 2021 iPad Pro is not waterproof. Apple currently does not have any waterproof iPads on the market. However, you can make your iPad Pro waterproof using a case or pouch.
