How to Upload a Font to Canva

To upload your own fonts into Canva, you will need to have a Canva Pro or Canva for Teams plan. From there, you can upload a font to your design project by clicking on the “Upload a font” button or in the Brand Kit menu under the “Fonts” section.

Hi! I’m Nancy and I’ve been using Canva for years to create awesome graphics and videos for all sorts of projects. It’s honestly one of the easiest graphic design tools out there, and with the Canva Pro account, you’ll get access to even more cool features like the font uploader.

In this article, I’ll guide you step by step on how to upload fonts into Canva.

How to Import Fonts: Step by Step

If you’re looking to add some unique fonts to your Canva designs, you’re in luck! Importing fonts to Canva is a simple process that can be done in just a few steps.

Just a heads up, this feature is only available with a Canva Pro or Canva for Teams subscription plan.

However, you can enjoy a free trial of these upgraded Canva plans for one month and have access to the Brand Hub, which allows you to try out the font upload feature. You can always cancel the free trial before the 30 days is up if you no longer need the extra Canva features and to avoid the recurring monthly fees.

Where to Download Free Fonts

Before you begin, you’ll need to download the font files you want to use. There are many websites where you can download free fonts, such as Google Fonts, Creative Market, and Dafonts. Once you’ve found the fonts you want, download the files to your computer or mobile device.

Usually, when you download a font, it comes in a zip folder that contains both the font file and a text file with the license information. Canva accepts the font files TTF, OTF, and WOFF.

It is important to note that you should only upload fonts that you have the legal right to use. Uploading fonts and using them without proper permission could lead to legal issues.

Upload Fonts to Your Brand Kit

Canva Brand Kits help users store and organize their brand assets, such as logos, colors, fonts, and graphics, all in one place. This feature enables users to apply consistent branding across all designs and streamline their design process.

To upload a font to your Canva Brand Kit, go to the Brand Hub tab on the Canva homepage. Next, find the Fonts section and click on the Add new button. Choose the font file you want to upload, wait for the upload to complete, and then search for your new fonts in the editor toolbar from the projects page.

You can also create multiple Brand Kits and each one can store up to 500 fonts. When you upgrade to Canva Pro, you’ll have access to over 3000 premium fonts that you can use in your designs. These fonts are already included in your subscription, so you don’t have to worry about uploading your own fonts if you don’t want to.

This can save you a lot of time and effort, especially if you’re working on a tight deadline or if you’re not sure which fonts to use.

Upload Fonts from Your Project

If you’re already working on a design project in Canva and want to add a new font, you can do it from there. Simply click on the text box you want to change, and then click on the font dropdown menu.

From there, click on Upload a font and select the font file you want to upload. Once it has been uploaded, Canva will automatically add the font to your Brand Kit for future use.

How to Upload Fonts in Canva Mobile App

To upload a font from the Canva mobile app, the process is very similar to that of the web app. All you have to do is download the fonts onto your phone first and then upload them to either your Brand Kit or from project mode.

How to Use Your New Canva Fonts

Once you’ve uploaded your fonts to Canva, you can use them in your projects just like any other font from the Canva library. To do this, simply search for the font name in the Font dropdown menu located in the editor toolbar.

To use your uploaded fonts in your Brand Kits, go to the Text tab on the project sidebar or click on a text box in your design. Next, click on the “Add your brand fonts” button and select any of your uploaded fonts. If you have multiple Brand Kits, you can easily switch between them by selecting the Brand Kit you want to use from the dropdown menu.

Why Can’t I Upload a Font in Canva?

There could be a few reasons why you’re unable to upload a font in Canva. One reason could be that the font file is not in the correct format. Canva only supports fonts in TTF, OTF, or WOFF format. Another reason could be that the font is not licensed for embedding.

If this is the case, you’ll need to contact the font provider to obtain the correct license or file version. Lastly, the font file may be corrupted or unreadable, in which case you’ll need to find a new copy of the font and upload it again.

There you have it! I hope the step-by-step guide was easy to follow when uploading new fonts to Canva. Whether you want to use your own brand’s fonts or access premium fonts, you’re sure to find one that suits your style and makes your designs pop.
