How to Charge GoPro Hero 10 Battery

Charging your GoPro Hero 10 battery is easy! Simply put the battery inside the GoPro, connect the USB-C cable to the camera, and then plug the cable into your computer or charging block.

I’m a passionate tech enthusiast with 10+ years of video production experience using all types of action cameras, including the GoPro Hero 10. From replacing tech parts to filming and editing, I’ve done it all.

In this guide, I’ll show you a comprehensive step-by-step guide on how to charge your GoPro Hero 10 battery. There is more than one way to charge it, and I’ll show you every method so you can get back to filming and doing what you love.

Ready, set, go!

Items to Prepare

You can easily charge your GoPro Hero 10 battery with the items that came in your box. This is the camera, battery, and USB-C cable.

Method 1: Charge GoPro Hero 10 Battery via USB Cable

Step 1: Turn your GoPro camera off. It will take longer to charge if the camera is still on. However, you can keep the camera on if you intend to use it while it’s charging.

Step 2: Push down on the battery door on the camera to open the battery compartment. There is a small groove on the camera’s left side near the bottom.

You may need to put your fingernail in the groove and apply a moderate amount of force. You’ll see the battery compartment once you open up the battery door.

Step 3: Take your GoPro Hero 10 battery and slide it into the compartment with the flap facing outwards and pointing toward the USB-C port. Make sure the battery is all the way inside the compartment.

Step 4: Next, grab the cable that came with your GoPro Hero 10 and plug the USB-C end into the USB-C port on the camera. The great thing about USB-C is that you can insert it in either direction.

Step 5: Now it’s time to plug the other end of the charging cable into a power source.

There are three different power sources you can plug the cable into.

  • Charge via computer: The GoPro Hero 10 doesn’t come with a charging block. This means the best option you have is to plug it into a desktop computer or laptop.
  • Charge via wall plug: Charging your GoPro Hero 10 with a wall plug requires you to have an extra charging block. Plug your charging block into an outlet and connect the charging cable to the USB port on the charging block.
  • Charge via power bank: You can also connect the charging cable to a power bank. This is the best option for users who are on the go and don’t want to be tethered to a computer or wall outlet.

Step 6: A red light will appear above the LCD screen once the camera is charging. The light will turn green once the battery is fully charged.

I recommend charging your GoPro using a standard AC wall charger. A computer’s USB port has a low current, and it may take up to 4 hours to completely charge your battery.

Charging your battery with a wall outlet shouldn’t take longer than 2 hours, and it should be at 80% in just 1 hour.

Method 2: Charge GoPro Hero 10 Battery via an External Charger

If you have multiple batteries, it may seem inconvenient to charge a battery using the camera itself. Is there a way to charge your secondary battery at home while you go outside to film with a fresh one?

Yes, there is!

You can purchase an external charger. This charger comes with a spare battery and can charge two batteries via a USB port. Simply place your battery inside the charging component.

Then plug one end of the charging cable that came with the package into the charger and the other end into a computer, wall outlet, or portable charger.

If you find that your batteries are charging too slowly, GoPro has the perfect option for you.

How to Charge GoPro Hero 10 Battery Even Faster

The fastest way to charge your GoPro Hero 10 battery is by purchasing a Supercharger from GoPro. The Supercharger is a charging block that’s designed explicitly for GoPro batteries.

This charger includes AC adapters for US, UK, EU, and AU style wall sockets. It’s also equipped with 27.5W, which allows it to charge extremely fast.

You can connect a USB-C or USB-A cable to the Supercharger. Your battery will charge 20% to 70% faster than a conventional charger.

Closing Thoughts

Charging your GoPro is a piece of cake. Insert the battery into the GoPro and connect one end of the charging cable to the camera’s USB-C port and the other end to a computer or charging brick.

However, you may find yourself charging your GoPro Hero 10 more often than you’d like, especially if you record using 5.3K60, 4K120, or 2.7K240.

If your battery always dies as you’re out filming, I recommend buying a few spare batteries and an external charger. This way, you’ll have a fresh set of batteries every time you go out to shoot.

Let me know if you have any questions about charging your GoPro and if there are any methods I forgot to mention. Happy filming!
