Fix & Recover Data from Water Damaged iPhone 5

I am a new iPhone 5 user, so then I went down to the beach with family members and we went swimming. After about a few minutes or so, then I realized my iPhone device was in my pocket. So I rushed up and wipe and shaked the water out then I left it in a trailer to dry if off. About half an hour later I tried to turn it on and it didn’t work. I realize it might be caused by water damage. How can I fix my phone, or at least retrieve the data inside? Please help me!

How to tell if your iPhone 5 is water damaged?

Based on a description from an Apple certified technician, at home you can do the same thing they will do from the comfort of your own. If you look in the bottom of the headphone jack, you will see a white circle. If the iPhone has been immersed in water, the circle turns red or pink.

Simple fixes for water damaged iPhone 5

The primary & key thing you need to do is try your best to get water out of your phone rapidly. Here are a couple of simple steps to get that done if your iPhone 5 gets water damaged.

  • Fish your iPhone out of the water as quickly as possible.
  • Dry it off with a towel or something similar. If it is still on, turn it off immediately. Note: running power through wet electronics can damage them beyond repair.
  • Remove the battery, SIM card etc off the phone. If possible, remove the rear glass panel too. Apple uses two special 5-point Pentalobe screws to secure the back.
  • Grab a bowl and fill it with uncooked rice or you can also put your iPhone 5 in with a bunch of silica packets.
  • Bury the iPhone in a bowl of rice and cover it up.
  • Last step is: wait day or two.

Hopefully, after 24-48 hours the iPhone will have dried out, the logic board wasn't damaged. If you took it apart, then you'll need to reassemble it now, and see if it powers on. If it does, hopefully you can turn your phone on and it will work.

Still won’t work? I am afraid the only solution is - send your damaged iPhone 5 to a professional repair center.

How to rescue data from damaged iPhone 5?

If unluckily, you tried all the above steps and the result was not positive. Now the only option is to try recovering the data from your iPhone 5. Without the device? Yes! What you need is an iPhone 5 data recovery software, which extracts iTunes Backup File (located on your PC or Mac) and restore all your files.

Note: it also supports other iPhone models and iPad, iPod Touch.

Step 1: Download and install the app on your PC or Mac computer. Launch it, select your iPhone 5 and “Start Scan”.
